The California State Bar on Thursday charged John Eastman, an attorney closely allied with former President Donald Trump, with 11 disciplinary counts related to his alleged scheme to overturn President Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election. The Office of Chief Trial Counsel George Cardona intends to seek Eastman's disbarment, according to a press release from the State Bar of California. Eastman is charged with making false statements about purported election fraud, including during a "stop the steal" rally outside the White House on Jan. 6, 2021. Eastman was the legal architect of one of several efforts to overturn Trump's loss to Biden. Pence, who presided over Congress' efforts to confirm Biden's victory on Jan. 6, 2021, refused to go along with that plan, despite pressure from Trump.
A special grand jury in Georgia that has been investigating former President Donald Trump and others for possible crimes related to their efforts to reverse his 2020 election loss in that state has completed its work, according to a court filing. The grand jury, which has been gathering evidence and hearing testimony in Atlanta, has written a final report on its findings. A court filing says that the grand jury voted to recommend that its report be published. Trump also faces a federal criminal investigation into his attempt to overturn the 2020 election, which he lost to President Joe Biden. Willis in January 2022 asked the chief judge of Fulton County to consider her request for empaneling a special purpose grand jury to investigate potential criminal interference in the 2020 election.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump throws caps as he attends a rally in Warren, Michigan, U.S., October 1, 2022. Former President Donald Trump and related defendants are opposing New York Attorney General Letitia James' call for an independent monitor to oversee the Trump Organization's submission of financial statements to third parties as part of a bombshell fraud lawsuit, according to a new court filing. James has asked a judge to name a watchdog who would review financial information that the company and defendants give lenders, insurers and accountants pending the outcome of the lawsuit. The attorney general's office requested the watchdog as part of a sweeping September lawsuit accusing Trump, three of his adult children, their company and others of a decadelong fraud related to financial statements. The lawyers argued that it "is precluded under our Constitution and must and should therefore be rejected."
A second woman accused Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker of pressuring her to get an abortion after she became pregnant during their relationship. Walker denied the latest allegation at a campaign event earlier Wednesday, NBC News reported. She alleges that after she became pregnant in 1993, Walker drove her to a clinic in Dallas, Texas, to have an abortion — one day after she backed out of getting the procedure on her own. When she became pregnant again two years later, the woman said Walker again urged her to end her pregnancy, but she refused. Walker, a former football star, has denied paying for the first woman's abortion or pushing her to terminate the pregnancy, calling it a lie.
New York Attorney General Letitia James on Wednesday sued former President Donald Trump, the Trump Organization, three of his adult children, and others for allegedly widespread fraud involving years' worth of false financial statements related to the company's business. The 220-page civil lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court seeks at least $250 million in damages. And it seeks to permanently bar Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Ivanka Trump from serving as an officer of a company in New York, and permanently prohibit the Trump companies named in the suit from doing business in New York state. "Donald Trump stands out as among the most egregious examples of this misconduct. With the help of his children and senior executives at the Trump Organization, Donald Trump falsely inflated his net worth by billions of dollars to unjustly enrich himself and cheat the system."
